“In standard trim, the Civic Type R is a thrilling machine to drive,” says Hiro Toyoda, vice president of Mugen Euro. “It is a fantastic base model from which we hope to develop one of the quickest point to point front-wheel-drive road cars in the country.”The Honda Civic Type R 'MUGEN' will use the same powertrain as used on the Civic Mugen RR saloon that was launched in Japan in 2007.
The 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine will be tuned to produce more power and torque, although no figures have been given. Changes for the Honda Civic Type R Mugen include a deeper and wider front spoiler, a new grille, a vented bonnet, plus vents just behind the front wheels. The Civic's triangular exhausts have been replaced by two large tailpipes, which sit beneath a more angular rear bumper. There's also a double-decker wing . Inside, the rear seats have been stripped out, and the front seats replaced with Recaro bucket seats. There's also some carbonfibre trim detailing. The brakes have also been uprated, while the car has a new wheel design. Testing of the car will begin later this year.
